International Women’s Day 2025: Accelerate Action Against Gender-Based Violence

PRESS RELEASE

International Women's Day, March 8, 2025.This International Women’s Day, the 911 Cell Phone Bank is joining the global call to “Accelerate Action”—the 2025 theme for International Women’s Day—by highlighting the urgent need to address gender-based violence and empower survivors. While domestic violence and abuse affect both men and women, statistics show that women are disproportionately impacted, often facing repeated and severe forms of abuse.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • 35.6% of women and 28.5% of men in the U.S. experience rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.
  • Women are more likely to experience sexual violence, coercive control in relationships, and abuse that escalates to homicide.
  • More women (23%) than men (19.3%) have been assaulted at least once in their lifetime.

To “Accelerate Action” against these alarming statistics, the 911 Cell Phone Bank is dedicated to providing critical tools that empower survivors to break free from abusive situations. By supplying secure, functional phones, the organization enables survivors to access emergency services, connect with loved ones, and establish a pathway to safety. For many women, a simple device can be the difference between enduring an abusive situation and finding freedom.

“The theme ‘Accelerate Action’ reflects the urgency needed to address the challenges women face daily,” said Susan Shipp, Public Relations Coordinator with the 911 Cell Phone Bank. “Through partnerships and donations, we can provide victims and survivors with the tools they need to regain independence and rebuild their lives.”

As the world honors the achievements of women this International Women’s Day, it is vital to remember the challenges many still face. Gender-based violence continues to impact millions of women, and raising awareness is a crucial step toward prevention and support.

The 911 Cell Phone Bank invites businesses, corporations, and organizations to support its mission by donating unclaimed devices from their lost-and-found departments. While 90% of donated phones cannot be used in the program and are properly recycled, securing a steady supply of usable devices is essential to meeting the needs of survivors.
